Birth of a Diety The Unruly Hair Continues

J.E Crum

J.E. Crum creates a myriad of self-portraits that are transformed into allegorical figures and muses. The artist works intuitively and tends to draw inspiration from mythologies as personal narratives evolve from abstractions she creates when she is lost in the process of making her energetic pieces.

ARTIST STATEMENT: I’m allured to creating variations of the self-portrait, which I've been intrigued with since first studying art. Once I began to understand that the concept of creating a self-portrait transcends the idea of a physical representation, I found the act of creating self-portraits to be very empowering. In a way, the portraits are meant to be a positive, universal representation of women and a testimony to their strengths.
