Lost In Your Delta
It's Complicated
Joe Váradi
Meandering, stirring up thrills
And stumbles of long ago,
Our evening chats ebb and flow
Depositing rich sediment
In the river bed below
I had purpose, I was destined —
The path was clear, so it seemed
Up ahead the ocean gleamed
Its briny infinite calling
“Rush to me and be redeemed...”
On your gentle curving banks are
Suddenly my waters thrust,
Into misty waves combust,
Siren songs and undercurrents
Teasing out my wanderlust
Tossed and whipped in twists and turns,
Churning whirlpools, vortices,
Drowning out my rambling peace,
Pent-up tension, stiff resistance,
Promises of sweet release
Once a mighty artery now
Splintered in a thousand veins
Zig-zagging through flooded plains
Lost in your entangled delta
Only stubborn hope remains
